I marvel at a man of experience—how he grows heedless,

and pursues amusement after becoming entangled.

And one held captive by scandals and sins

falls short in striving to break free.

And one who ruins his own soul through sloth and ignorance

and leads it into the terrors of destruction,

    by renewing sins every day

and by deliberately violating what is forbidden—

he will know when death takes him by surprise

and the throng of weeping women thickens around him.
