Your letter arrived, a pearl like the full moon,

And light rises and descends from its thread.

Then its bird alighted on my fingertips, and there flowed

Tears from my eyes that rain cannot rival.

Pages bearing glad tidings I sent to you,

Radiant, matched by the sun and the moon.

They recount news of my condition, while bearing

From me a greeting that scatters like pearls,

To you, O noblest of creation in rank,

And in glory, too vast for land and sea.

My heart has never parted from remembrance of you,

And my eye—sleeplessness dwells in its lid.

At times I question the wind, that it may tell me

About you, yet it has neither knowledge nor news.

And I ask God for a swift reunion:

May sorrows and gloom depart from me.
