O my lord, grant me from your right hand a robe,

Of broadcloth to wear, expertly tailored.

It shields me from the biting cold, and it

Wraps every limb and joint of mine.

Your right hand pours forth jewels for food,

And cleaves the foes with a blade on the day of spear-fighting.

My verse in your praise stands apart from every poet's,

And my verse in your praise has grown longer than every prolix poet's.

So my hope in you is ample in all that I expect,

And you have encircled humankind's necks with generosity.

And endure, O son of Sultan, in glory and eminence,

Towering above al-Jawza by a sandal's height and rising aloft.
