اعلوةٌ جاء عُذَّالي مرامهم

اعلوةٌ جاء عُذَّالي مرامهم

تركي مَحَبَّتِكُمْ وامضُوا كما جاؤا

تركي مَحَبَّتِكُمْ وامضُوا كما جاؤا

O ʿAlwa, my reproachers have come; their aim is

My lofty disposition has come, their abuse is in vain

That I abandon my love for you; and go away as they came.

Leave my love and go away as you came

ما قَطُّ اسمعُ لو لَجّوا ولو عَذَلوا

ما قَطُّ اسمعُ لو لَجّوا ولو عَذَلوا

بجَهْلهِمْ وَهُمُ في الأصلِ أعداءُ

بجَهْلهِمْ وَهُمُ في الأصلِ أعداءُ

I never listen, even if they persist and even if they reproach

I never listen even if they blame or abuse

In their ignorance, while they are enemies to begin with.

With their ignorance though they were originally enemies

ولست أسلو بعَذْلٍ عن هواكِ ولا

ولست أسلو بعَذْلٍ عن هواكِ ولا

يُفْنِيه دالٌ ولا هاءٌ ولا راءُ

يُفْنِيه دالٌ ولا هاءٌ ولا راءُ

And I do not forsake my love for you because of reproach; neither

And I won't ask with abuse about your love, nor

Dāl nor hāʾ nor rāʾ can extinguish it.

Will it be destroyed by dal or ha or raa
