In time's vicissitudes lie grave calamities and lessons.

And neither vows nor caution avail against them.

A dire calamity has sunk its claws into them,

Until grief and harm have multiplied among us.

This has befallen us with the loss of Abdullah,

And pearls have fallen from our eyelids.

The pure young man Muhammad, through whom flourished

The mosques, and through whom traditions were upheld.

O Lord, drench the tomb that holds his body

With a downpour streaming down from the rain clouds' eyes.

The mosques lament his loss; within them he would

Recite, stirred by the verses and the surahs.

And I ask God that I may meet him amid blessings,

In Paradise, our abode, if fate permits.
