أجارَتناO our neighbor إنindeed العواذلَthe reproachers فيin الهوىlove
أجارَتنا إن العواذلَ في الهوى
عليَّtoward me شدادٌstern غضّبangry وغِلاظُand harsh
عليَّ شدادٌ غضّب وغِلاظُ
O our neighbor, indeed the reproachers in love
The passionate have burdened me, for in love
are stern toward me, angry and harsh.
I am beset by a wrathful and harsh Shaddad.
همthey الفارغونَthose free of الشغلِcares لاno شاغلٌpreoccupation لهمfor them
هم الفارغونَ الشغلِ لا شاغلٌ لهم
وقلبيand my heart كَفَتْهُhave sufficed it حَسَّرةٌanguish وشُواظُand flame
وقلبي كَفَتْهُ حَسَّرةٌ وشُواظُ
They are free of cares, with nothing to occupy them,
They are the carefree, with no occupation,
while my heart has its fill of anguish and flame.
While my heart is constrained by grief and sorrow.
وحُبّكُمand love for you ماnot زالَhas ceased ينميgrows بأعظميin my bones
وحُبّكُم ما زالَ ينمي بأعظمي
لهfor it فيin فؤاديmy heart موقعٌa place وحِفَاظُand safekeeping
له في فؤادي موقعٌ وحِفَاظُ
And my love for you keeps growing in my bones;
My love for you continues to grow mightily
it has a place in my heart, faithfully guarded.
And has in my heart a place and chambers.
يُنَهْنِهsoothes قلبيmy heart ذِكرُكُمremembrance of you وحديثُكُمand your words
يُنَهْنِه قلبي ذِكرُكُم وحديثُكُم
وتُتْلِفُهand destroy it يومَon the day of الفراقِparting لِحاظُglances
وتُتْلِفُه يومَ الفراقِ لِحاظُ
Remembrance of you and your words soothe my heart,
My heart is soothed by the mention and talk of you,
and glances destroy it on the day of parting.
And on the day we part, visions comfort me.
غنيتI have been content بكمwith you عنwithout need of مأكليmy food ومشاربيand my drinks
غنيت بكم عن مأكلي ومشاربي
وإنand even though لمdid not أسِغْI swallow منهof it بفيّin my mouth لُماظُa morsel
وإن لم أسِغْ منه بفيّ لُماظُ
With you, I have no need of my food and drink,
I am, because of you, distracted from food and drink,
even though no morsel of it has passed through my mouth.
Even if I do not get from it a scrap or morsel.
