    ما قد وجدتُ له شِبْهاً من الكتبِ

    This is a noble book—lucid and fair;

    Among all books, I have found none its equal.

    Encompassing the sciences, encompassing every wonder—

    Would that its scribe had penned it in gold.

    To one possessed of knowledge, no wealth can replace it,

    Even were it sold for all the riches on earth.

    This is the renowned Compendium, composed by

    A scion of Ja‘far, a man of purity and letters.

    O Lord, illuminate the grave that has become his dwelling,

    And pour down upon him from streaming clouds.
