    Indeed, you have feathered the people of earth, O sea,

    While calamity and time wear my plumage away.

    And how can the misfortunes of the nights assail me,

    While your generosity is a protective shield and a shelter for me?

    And if dreadful penury shatters my ribs,

    Then your bounty, O my lord, brings them mending from you.

    شواهدُك البيضاء لاغالها نكر

    Said bin Sultan, through you glory has shone;

    Your radiant proofs—may no calamity destroy them.

    له البذلُ أفقٌ والسماحُ لها شَهْرُ

    And you are a full moon whose light does not diminish;

    Giving is its horizon, and generosity its month.

    وفي فعلها يوم الوغى تعجزُ السُمر

    And your radiant pens quiver to bestow bounty;

    And on the day of battle, the brown spears cannot match their deeds.

    You have mastered the necks of all people, and have not left

    On earth a single person who can be called free.

    In your two palms, fires seethe against the foes,

    And gardens for those who hope, their meadows green.

    When you visit the foe with sword and spears,

    The raven, the beast of prey, and the vulture call to one another.

    قفتها على آثارِها الكُمْتُ والشُقْرُ

    You trample the enemies' villages with piebald steeds in the forenoon;

    The bay and chestnut steeds followed them along their tracks.

    Armored in awe wrought by your sword's deadly force,

    And behold them, with victory bound to their manes.

    You entered the fray, where the brown spears were interlocked,

    And the breasts and throats of your horses catch it.

    فريت ولو شمس الضحى جردت قبر

    You traveled by night, even if the darkness were a mighty army;

    You cut through, even if the forenoon sun unsheathed a grave [source wording unclear].

    وخيلُكَ سُفنٌ والدِما زاخراً بَحْر

    Your keen sword is lightning, and the battle-dust is clouds;

    And your horses are ships, and the blood a surging sea.
