مِن طول ما لاقيتُ من إخواني
You revived my hopes, though I had put them to death
You revived my hopes and fulfilled them
because of all I had long endured from my brethren.
After so long encountering unfaithful friends

كانت بداية أمرهم نسياني
I gave them my pure affection, but when they grew wealthy,
I gave them my affection and loyalty but when they prospered

حسبيenough for me منfrom الدنياthis world صديقٌa friend ثابتsteadfast
حسبي من الدنيا صديقٌ ثابت
فردٌa single one فكنْهso be that friend ولاand no احتياجneed لثانيfor a second
فردٌ فكنْه ولا احتياج لثاني
All I need from this world is a steadfast friend,
In this life, one true friend is enough
a single one—so be that friend; I need no second.
A confidante, so value him and need no other
