To you I offer my apology today

Today I offer you my apology

for my tardiness in coming to you; so grant it acceptance.

For being distant, so accept it kindly

فقد نزل الكرى ضيفاً بجفني

فقد نزل الكرى ضيفاً بجفني

وأغراهُ القِرى أن لا يزولا

وأغراهُ القِرى أن لا يزولا

For sleep has settled as a guest upon my eyelid,

Sorrow came to reside in my eyes

and hospitality enticed him not to leave.

Allured to never leave or say goodbye

سأجزيهِ بسفح الدمع منه

سأجزيهِ بسفح الدمع منه

وأحرمه الكرى دهرىً طويلا

وأحرمه الكرى دهرىً طويلا

I shall repay my eyelid by shedding tears from it,

With tearful cheeks I will repay its stay

and deprive it of sleep for a long time.

And banish sorrow for many a day
