الدهرtime أنعمhas bestowed blessings بالمسرةwith delight فاجتلِso behold it
الدهر أنعم بالمسرة فاجتلِ
ودعاand beckoned بمعراجwith a ladder of ascent السعادةhappiness فاعتلِso ascend
ودعا بمعراج السعادة فاعتلِ
Time has bestowed delight—so behold it.
Time has blessed with joy, so be cheerful
And beckoned with happiness’s ladder—so ascend.
And invited the ladder of happiness, so ascend
والبشرand gladness أقبلhas come والسعودand good fortunes مواصلٌare continual
والبشر أقبل والسعود مواصلٌ
فتهنَّso take delight واسعدand be happy بالسرورin the joy المقبلِforthcoming
فتهنَّ واسعد بالسرور المقبلِ
And gladness has come, and good fortune is constant.
And people came, good fortune continuing
So take delight, and rejoice in the joy to come.
So they were delighted and made happy by the arriving joy
والكونand the universe يبسمsmiles ثغرهits mouth ويتيهand struts proudly فيin
والكون يبسم ثغره ويتيه في
حللِrobes الهناءbliss بوجههwith its face المتهللِbeaming
حللِ الهناء بوجهه المتهللِ
And the universe smiles with its lips and walks proudly in
And the universe smiles its mouth and wanders in
Robes of bliss, its face beaming.
The robes of bliss with its exultant face
وبداand appeared اقترانكyour union والكمالand perfection قرينهits companion
وبدا اقترانك والكمال قرينه
كالنيِّرينlike the two luminaries تلاقياthe two met فيin منزلِa celestial station
كالنيِّرين تلاقيا في منزلِ
And your union appeared, with perfection as its companion,
And your conjunction appeared, and perfection its companion
Like the two luminaries that met in one celestial station.
Like two lights meeting in an abode
ياO! حسنهits beauty إذwhen قيلit was said فيin تاريخهits chronogram
يا حسنه إذ قيل في تاريخه
شمسa sun بدتappeared لكfor you فيin ربيعspring (Rabiʿ) الأولِthe First (al-Awwal)
شمس بدت لك في ربيع الأولِ
How lovely it was, when this was said in its chronogram:
O beautiful one, when it was said in its date
A sun appeared for you in Rabiʿ al-Awwal.
