مراد الفتى بين الضلوع كمينُ
ولكنand yet محياهhis countenance عليهof it يبيِنُmakes clear
ولكن محياه عليه يبيِنُ
The young man's desire lies hidden between his ribs;
The young man's desire lies hidden in his ribs
yet his countenance makes it plain.
Yet his face shows what's inside of him
وللمرءand a person has عنوانa sign علىof ماwhat بقلبهِin his heart
وللمرء عنوان على ما بقلبهِ
ووَسْمٌand a mark علىof ماwhat فيin الضميرthe inner self يكونُis
ووَسْمٌ على ما في الضمير يكونُ
And a person has a sign of what is in his heart,
A person's title reflects what's in his heart
and a mark of what lies in his inner self.
A mark of what's in his conscience he does own
يناديproclaims علىof ماwhat عندهwith him نطقُspeech حالهِhis bearing
ينادي على ما عنده نطقُ حالهِ
فليسso there is no علىon نطقspeech اللسانthe tongue ركونُreliance
فليس على نطق اللسان ركونُ
His bearing speaks aloud of what he holds within;
He calls out from the state his condition's in
so the tongue's speech is not to be relied upon.
Not on what the tongue says can one depend
