1. أتمّ السلام لحبر الأنام

    سمى المقام فريد الزمنْ

    The fullest greetings to the scholar of humankind,

    Exalted in station, the peerless one of the age;

  2. كريم السجايا شريف المزايا

    مفيد العطايا كثير المننْ

    Generous in character, noble in qualities,

    A bestower of gifts, abundant in favors;

  3. مَعِين المعاني الذي لفظهُ

    رشيقُ المباني رقيقٌ حسنْ

    A wellspring of meanings, whose speech

    Is graceful in form, delicate and beautiful;

  4. سنيّ المحيّا وهذي الثريا

    تحاكي سناه إذا الليل جنّ

    Radiant of countenance—and these Pleiades

    Mirror his radiance when night grows dark;

  5. سما قدره لسماء الكمال

    وطالعُه بالسعود اقترن

    His stature rose to the heaven of perfection,

    And his ascendant was conjoined with auspicious stars.

  6. وبعدُ فإنّ الفتى المستهام

    بحبكمو في الورى مفتتنْ

    And now, indeed, the love-stricken youth

    Is, among humankind, enraptured by love for you;

  7. حليف السقامِ لفرط الغرام

    فمن للشجيّ الكثير الشجنْ

    A companion of sickness through excess of passion—

    So who will aid the sorrowful one, so full of grief?

  8. عليه البعاد قضي بالسهاد

    وطرد الرقا ونفي الوسن

    Separation decreed for him sleeplessness,

    And the expulsion of charms and the banishment of drowsiness.

  9. فيا عاذلي في الهوى كُف عن

    ملامي فما القصد إلاّ حسن

    So, you who reproach me for love, refrain from

    Blaming me, for my aim is none but Hasan.
