Sweet to the lovesick one were the letters that greeted him.
The young man's morning is graced with books,
Their words seemed a kind of thick white honey.
Their words like rhythmic, metered strokes.

Ask the boon companions about the joy there was
Ask the remorseful about their rash ways -
When they drew near, and about the rapture there was.
How they fretted, how they yearned those days!

They proclaimed their giver's affection and bore witness
She called to the beloved of her cradle, attesting
That he had risen to the loftiest ranks.
He had risen to the highest station.

Fresh pearls do not match them or come close to them,
No moist pearl can approximate her words,
Nor does refined gold resemble them.
Nor gold refined match her, perfectly cured.

فصاحب العقلِ لا يصبو إلى عجب
And if a thing comes one day from its own sources,
If something issues from its essence one day,
Then a person of reason is not drawn to wonder.
The wise are not astonished, come what may.

His virtues stood supreme among humankind as a model,
His virtues have become exemplars for all
And his excellence spread among non-Arabs and Arabs.
Arabs and non-Arabs, great and small.

O peerless one of the age, remain in eminence and radiance,
O singular one of the age, live long, exalted!
And ascend the heights, rejoice, stay safe, reign, and be well.
Ascend the heights, rejoice and be safe and sated!
