On the hills of convivial joy, the breezes are fragrant,

so the branches and the souls sway.

So pass around among their blossoms, my drinking companion,

a cup of wine from which the soul finds ease.

And give it to me unmixed, for upon us—

the company of lovers—there is never any blame.

And hasten to joy, for the brief moments

of serenity, if the watcher is far away, are lovely.

And do you not see the branches bending,

and the birds of joy calling out?
