شهر الصيام لقد كَرُمت نزيلا

شهر الصيام لقد كَرُمت نزيلا

ونويتُ من بعدِ المقامِ رحيلا

ونويتُ من بعدِ المقامِ رحيلا

O month of fasting, you have indeed been a noble guest.

The month of fasting, you have honored us as a guest

And after the stay, I resolved to depart.

And I intended after this stay, to depart

لم تستتم بملتقاكَ مسرةٌ

لم تستتم بملتقاكَ مسرةٌ

حتى اتخذت إلى الفراقِ سبيلا

حتى اتخذت إلى الفراقِ سبيلا

The joy of meeting you was not yet complete

Your gathering did not complete any joy

When you took the path toward parting.

Until you took the path towards separation

ولقد وددنا منك طول إقامةِ

ولقد وددنا منك طول إقامةِ

فأبيتَ إلاّ أن تقيمَ قليلا

فأبيتَ إلاّ أن تقيمَ قليلا

And indeed we wished you would stay long,

And we wished for your long stay

Yet you refused to stay more than a little while.

But you refused except to stay a little

وافيت لكن ما رضيتُ إقامةً

وافيت لكن ما رضيتُ إقامةً

ووفَيتُ لكن ما شفيتُ غليلا

ووفَيتُ لكن ما شفيتُ غليلا

You arrived, but I was not content with your stay,

You fulfilled what you were content with in stay

And I kept faith, but did not quench my burning thirst.

But you did not quench any anguish

ودّعتنا فكأنما أودعتنا

ودّعتنا فكأنما أودعتنا

عند النوى وجداً عليكَ طويلا

عند النوى وجداً عليكَ طويلا

You bade us farewell, as though you had lodged within us

You bade us farewell as if you entrusted us

At parting, a lasting longing for you.

With sorrow for you that is prolonged

وتركتنا نبكي عليكَ أسى ولم

وتركتنا نبكي عليكَ أسى ولم

تترك لنا صبراً عليكَ جميلا

تترك لنا صبراً عليكَ جميلا

And you left us weeping for you in sorrow, and did not

And you left us crying in sorrow for you but

Leave us graceful patience to bear your loss.

Did not leave for us beautiful patience for you

كانت لياليكَ الصِّباح مواسماً

كانت لياليكَ الصِّباح مواسماً

للخير تفضل غيرها تفضيلا

للخير تفضل غيرها تفضيلا

Your radiant nights were seasons

Your nights were seasons of dawn for good

Of goodness, surpassing others in excellence.

Preferring them over others with preference

كانت بها سنن القيامِ مقامة

كانت بها سنن القيامِ مقامة

وبها الكتابُ مرتلاً ترتيلا

وبها الكتابُ مرتلاً ترتيلا

In them, the practices of night prayer were observed,

In them were the traditions of standing in place

And in them, the Book was recited in measured cadence.

And in them the Book being recited in recitation

فاليومُ تشرق بالدموعِ عيُوننا

فاليومُ تشرق بالدموعِ عيُوننا

لمّا رأت من بدرهنَ أفولا

لمّا رأت من بدرهنَ أفولا

So today our eyes are choked with tears,

So today our eyes shine with tears

Now that they have seen their full moon set.

When they saw their full moon set

وأخصُّ مِن بين الليالي ليلةً

وأخصُّ مِن بين الليالي ليلةً

فيها المهيمنُ أنزل التنزيلا

فيها المهيمنُ أنزل التنزيلا

And among the nights, I single out one night

And I specify among the nights, a night

In which the All-Watchful sent down the Revelation.

In which the Guardian descended the revelation

هي ليلة القدر التي مَنْ قامها

هي ليلة القدر التي مَنْ قامها

في جنة المأوى استحق دخولا

في جنة المأوى استحق دخولا

It is the Night of Decree; whoever spends it in prayer

It is Laylat Al Qadr in which whoever stood in it

Has earned entry into the Garden of Refuge.

Deserved entering Heaven as reward

تمشى الملائكة الكرامُ وهُم بها

تمشى الملائكة الكرامُ وهُم بها

مترددون تصاعداً ونزولا

مترددون تصاعداً ونزولا

The noble angels walk there,

The honorable angels walk in it while they

Coming and going, ascending and descending.

Go back and forth ascending and descending
