واحسرتاalas, my sorrow! إذsince ليسis not قلبيmy heart فيin يديmy hand
Love has ruled, and this is no time for me to stand firm.
Love's rule prevailed when you adorned yourself
Alas, for my heart is not in my hand.
And I lamented that my heart was not in my hand

ياO مهجتيmy soul عوديreturn مكانكِto your place تُحْمديyou will be praised
My soul has journeyed to the valley of yearning.
My affection went to the valley of youth
O my soul, return to your place, and you will be praised.
Oh my affection, return to your place and you will be praised
نثرتscattered عيونيmy eyes أبحراًseas منof أدمعيmy tears
هذاthis وجمرُand the embers of صبابتيmy yearning لمhave not يُخمدِbeen quenched
My eyes have scattered seas of my tears.
My eyes shed rivers of tears
All this, while the embers of my yearning remain unquenched.
While the embers of my youth are not extinguished

Happy is he who has not known what love tastes like.
Blessed is he who did not know the taste of passion
Indeed, love, by God, is bitter at its watering place.
For by God, passion is bitter when tasted
