إن فؤاداً آية في الحفظِ

إن فؤاداً آية في الحفظِ

إذ لم يغب عن ذهنهِ من لفظِ

إذ لم يغب عن ذهنهِ من لفظِ

Indeed, Fuad is a marvel at memorization,

A heart gifted with memorization

For not a word has escaped his mind.

Never forgetting a single word or phrase

لكنهُ مقَصرٌ في الإنشا

لكنهُ مقَصرٌ في الإنشا

وسوف يقوي بالمرون إن شا

وسوف يقوي بالمرون إن شا

But he falls short in composition,

Yet falling short in composition

And will grow stronger through practice, if he wishes.

Strength will come through practice, God willing

وقد أجاد الانتقادَ جدا

وقد أجاد الانتقادَ جدا

غضنفريٌّ بالحجى تحدي

غضنفريٌّ بالحجى تحدي

And he excelled greatly in criticism—

Excelling in critique and discussion

Ghadanfari, who challenged with his intellect.

Challenging eloquent speech

أقوالهُ لم تخلُ من إعجازِ

أقوالهُ لم تخلُ من إعجازِ

لكنهُ أفرط في الإيجازِ

لكنهُ أفرط في الإيجازِ

His words were not devoid of inimitable brilliance,

His words full of wonders

But he went too far in brevity.

Though exceedingly terse

أما أمين الرافعي فقد سلمْ

أما أمين الرافعي فقد سلمْ

من فرط إيجازٍ ومن ضعف الكلمْ

من فرط إيجازٍ ومن ضعف الكلمْ

As for Amin al-Rafi‘i, he was free

As for Amin al-Rafie

From excessive brevity and weak expression.

Neither overly brief nor weak in diction

لكنه في حومة المطالبِ

لكنه في حومة المطالبِ

ما جاء إلا بالكثير الغالبِ

ما جاء إلا بالكثير الغالبِ

But in the thick of the requirements,

When pressed by demands

He supplied only the greater part.

He provides ample and abundant

مقدماتٌ أنتجت قضيهْ

مقدماتٌ أنتجت قضيهْ

لكل فرد منهمُ مزيهْ

لكل فرد منهمُ مزيهْ

Premises yielded a conclusion:

Premises producing conclusions

Each one of them has a merit.

Each individual has merit

وخمسةٌ من بعد هؤلاءِ

وخمسةٌ من بعد هؤلاءِ

قد استحقوا عاطر الثناءِ

قد استحقوا عاطر الثناءِ

And five others after these

And five after them

Have earned fragrant praise.

Deserve the sweetest praise
