بظلك كل شخص يستقيلُ

بظلك كل شخص يستقيلُ

ومن شطط الحوادث يستقيلُ

ومن شطط الحوادث يستقيلُ

In your shade, every person takes a midday rest,

In your shade, everyone finds peace,

and seeks release from the harshness of calamities.

And from the excess of events, finds peace.

ومنك إليك تَرداد المعالي

ومنك إليك تَرداد المعالي

وليس سواك ثَم لها سبيل

وليس سواك ثَم لها سبيل

And from you to you the lofty virtues pass to and fro,

From you to you, the echo of glories,

and there they have no path but you.

And none but you is their way.

وفيك مكارم الأخلاق قرّت

وفيك مكارم الأخلاق قرّت

وحسنُ الرأي والخلق الجميل

وحسنُ الرأي والخلق الجميل

And in you the noblest moral qualities have settled,

In you, virtues of character settled,

and sound judgment and beautiful character.

And goodness of opinion and beautiful manners.

وعندك ألقت العليا عصاها

وعندك ألقت العليا عصاها

ولازمك السعادةُ والقبول

ولازمك السعادةُ والقبول

And with you, eminence has laid down its staff,

With you, the sublime cast off their staffs,

and good fortune and favor have remained your companions.

And you were accompanied by prosperity and acceptance.

وعنك روى الشمال رقيق طبع

وعنك روى الشمال رقيق طبع

كما تروى عن الروح الشمول

كما تروى عن الروح الشمول

And the north wind has told of your gentle nature,

From you, the north wind blew gently,

as wine tells of the spirit.

As the soul blows inclusiveness.

وفي أفق الوفاء رقيت أوجاً

وفي أفق الوفاء رقيت أوجاً

يعزّ على سواك له وصول

يعزّ على سواك له وصول

And in the sky of fidelity you have risen to a zenith,

On the horizon of loyalty you rose high,

which anyone but you finds hard to reach.

None but you can reach it.

لك الجاه العريض إذا اكفهرت

لك الجاه العريض إذا اكفهرت

صروف الدهر والباع الطويل

صروف الدهر والباع الطويل

Yours is broad influence when they grow grim—

Yours is the vast glory when

the vicissitudes of time—and yours is an arm of long reach.

The turns of fate and long eras rage.

فكم وعدٍ وفيت وكم صعاب

فكم وعدٍ وفيت وكم صعاب

غدوت على مفارقها تصول

غدوت على مفارقها تصول

So how many promises you have kept, and how many hardships

How many promises you fulfilled, and how many difficulties

you have come to charge upon their very heads!

You stormed over leaving them.

وكم حققت من أمل ظننا ال

وكم حققت من أمل ظننا ال

حوادث دون مدركه تحول

حوادث دون مدركه تحول

And how many a hope you have fulfilled, though we thought the

How many a hope you realised, which

calamities would bar the way to attaining it.

Events cannot change their course to.

وكم لك من يدٍ يثنى عليها ال

وكم لك من يدٍ يثنى عليها ال

غدوّ وليس ينكرها الأصيل

غدوّ وليس ينكرها الأصيل

And how many a favor of yours is praised by the

How many hands praise you

morning, and the late afternoon does not deny it.

Every morning, and the noble does not deny.

وكم لك من محاسنَ في البرايا

وكم لك من محاسنَ في البرايا

تقصّر عن مداركها العقول

تقصّر عن مداركها العقول

And how many virtues are yours among humankind,

How many beauties of yours in the wild

which minds fall short of comprehending!

That minds fall short of grasping.

وإني موقن ببلوغ قصدي

وإني موقن ببلوغ قصدي

ولي من حسن ذكراكم دليل

ولي من حسن ذكراكم دليل

And I am certain of attaining my aim,

I am certain of achieving my purpose,

and your good renown gives me proof.

And I have the goodness of your mention as evidence.

فلا عجبٌ إذا حققت ظني

فلا عجبٌ إذا حققت ظني

فظني في سعادتكم جميل

فظني في سعادتكم جميل

So it is no wonder if you fulfill my expectation,

No wonder if you fulfil my expectation,

for I think well of Your Excellency.

For my expectation in your prosperity is beautiful.
