حتّامhow long نفرحwe rejoice بالبقاءin living ونطربُand we exult
حتّام نفرح بالبقاء ونطربُ
والنفسُand the soul أدنىnearer للفناءِto death وأقربُand closer
والنفسُ أدنى للفناءِ وأقربُ
How long shall we rejoice in living and exult,
We are happy to live though nearer to death,
while the soul is nearer and closer to death?
The soul more inclined to demise than joy.
ونهايةand the end of الدنياearthly life مضِيقٌa narrow place مثلlike ذاthis
ونهاية الدنيا مضِيقٌ مثل ذا
طوبَىblessedness لمنfor whoever لفسيحِfor the spacious expanse of عدنٍEden يطلبُseeks
طوبَى لمن لفسيحِ عدنٍ يطلبُ
And the end of earthly life is a narrow place like this;
The end of this world is a narrow pass,
blessed is whoever seeks Eden's spacious expanse.
Blessed is he who seeks spacious Eden.
قَدِمَتْهshe reached it زينبُZaynab إذas تقدمهاpreceded her التقىpiety
قَدِمَتْه زينبُ إذ تقدمها التقى
والخيرand goodness والعملُand deeds الجميلbeautiful الطيبُvirtuous
والخير والعملُ الجميل الطيبُ
Zaynab reached it, as piety went before her,
Zainab came with piety leading her way,
and goodness and beautiful, virtuous deeds.
And righteous deeds and noble acts trailing her.
وأتىand came بنيthe children of الدنياthis world النداءُthe call مؤرخاًmarking the date
وأتى بني الدنيا النداءُ مؤرخاً
فيin أرفعthe highest part of الفردوسParadise توجدis found زينبُZaynab
في أرفع الفردوس توجد زينبُ
And the call came to the children of this world, marking the date:
The call of the hereafter came dating her name,
In the highest part of Paradise, Zaynab is found.
In the highest paradise dwells Zainab.
