سقانيhe gave me to drink خمرةًwine منfrom ريقِsaliva فيهِhis mouth
سقاني خمرةً من ريقِ فيهِ
وحَيَّاand he greeted بالعذارwith the down on his cheek وماand what يليهِlies beside it
وحَيَّا بالعذار وما يليهِ
He gave me wine to drink from the saliva of his mouth.
He gave me a cup of wine from his saliva
And greeted me with his downy cheek and what lies beside it.
And greeted me with aloofness and what follows
وباتand spent the night معانقيembracing me خدًّاcheek بخدagainst a cheek
وبات معانقي خدًّا بخد
مليحٌa handsome one فيamong الأنامِhumankind بلاwithout شبيهِan equal
مليحٌ في الأنامِ بلا شبيهِ
And spent the night embracing me, cheek to cheek—
And spent the night embracing me, cheek to cheek
A beauty among humankind, without an equal.
A beauty among men, without equal
وباتand spent the night البدرthe full moon مطّلعاًwatching عليناus
وبات البدر مطّلعاً علينا
سلوهask him لاينمّnot to tell tales علىon أخيهِhis brother
سلوه لاينمّ على أخيهِ
And the full moon spent the night watching us.
And the full moon spent the night shining upon us
Ask him not to tell tales on his brother.
Ask him, he does not sleep while his brother slumbers
