Have mercy! Arise—your slumber has lasted too long.

    Shafiq cannot bear this separation.

his weeping, which rends the heart of lifeless things?

O mother of his, where is your heart's tenderness?

How could you bear to leave

your heart's lifeblood to this sleeplessness?

Shafiq, sleep; do not weep—enough sorrow.

Do not give sorrows free rein.

anything, so it may be granted you exactly as you wish?

You will accept nothing but her return—so wait

as long as you wish, for the appointed time is the Day of Return.

You would have made yourself heard had you called someone alive; so do not

seek to meet her before the Day of Calling.

The matter is settled, so do not be dejected.

And God decrees between us whatever He has willed.
