كالبدرُ يخجل كلّ نجم شارقِ

Serenity unveiled a captivating face,

Like the full moon, putting every shining star to shame.

والبشر جاء بطلعة وضاحة

شهدت بأن الله أحسن خالقِ

شهدت بأن الله أحسن خالقِ

And gladness came with a radiant visage,

Which testified that God is the finest creator.

تجلو أسرتها السرور وينجلي

تجلو أسرتها السرور وينجلي

حذْق الفهيم بها وفهم الحاذقِ

حذْق الفهيم بها وفهم الحاذقِ

Its features reveal joy, and there are revealed

Through it the discerning one's skill and the adept one's insight.

وترى الخلائق من مخايل ربها

وترى الخلائق من مخايل ربها

أن سوف يبهرهم بغرّ خلائقِ

أن سوف يبهرهم بغرّ خلائقِ

And people discern, from its bearer's promising signs,

That he will dazzle them with radiant virtues.

وافى فوافى بعد مقدمه الصفا

وافى فوافى بعد مقدمه الصفا

يا حسن مسبوق وأحسن سابقِ

يا حسن مسبوق وأحسن سابقِ

He arrived, and after his arrival came serenity;

How lovely the follower, and lovelier still the forerunner!

وازدان مسرى وهو مسراه إلى

هذا الوجود بجوده المتلاحقِ

هذا الوجود بجوده المتلاحقِ

And Misra grew resplendent—it was his passage into

This world—through his ever-renewed bounty.

وسناه أصبح ساطعاً وسعوده

متتابعاً والحال أفصح ناطقِ

متتابعاً والحال أفصح ناطقِ

And his radiance shone forth, and his good fortune

Continued unbroken; circumstance is the most eloquent speaker.

وتوالت البشرى فقلت مؤرخاً

رقّت لنا البشرى بمولد صادقِ

And glad tidings followed, so I said in a chronogram:
