    فليْسلم الصيادُ والشبكُ

    The letter arrived, and the fish came to us;

May the fisherman and the net be safe!

And it took up residence between our ribs,

So our bellies are pools for its sake.

And when the fowl came to us, there were set out

Within our bellies, for its arrival, benches.

And the hands stretched out in greeting,

And the molars and the jaw clacked together.

It lowered its wing, hoping for relief,

Since the paths were barred in its face.

And indeed we bore down upon it, so not

A single haunch of its was spared among us.

    The teeth circled it swiftly,

And companies of troops lined up around it.
