وقالوا حوت مصرُ المحاسنَ كلّها

وما غادرت مستطرفاً لسواها

وما غادرت مستطرفاً لسواها

And they said, “Egypt has gathered every beauty,

and left no rare delight for any other land.”

لقد صدقوا لو كان خدن العلي بها

لقد صدقوا لو كان خدن العلي بها

ولو كان فيها لاستتم علاها

ولو كان فيها لاستتم علاها

They would indeed have spoken truly, had the companion of glory been there;

and had he been within her, her glory would have been complete.
