قد كنتِ يا مصرُ مهدَ العلم والحكمِ

وأهلُكِ الغرُّ سادةَ الأممِ

You were once, O Egypt, the cradle of knowledge and wisdom,

You were indeed, O Egypt, the cradle of knowledge and wisdom.

and your illustrious people were the masters of nations.

And your illustrious people were masters of nations.

وسوف نبلغ بالتعليم ما بلغوا

وسوف نبلغ بالتعليم ما بلغوا

فالفرع وارثُ ما في الأصلِ من شيَمِ

فالفرع وارثُ ما في الأصلِ من شيَمِ

Through education, we shall attain what they attained;

And through education we shall attain what they attained.

for the branch inherits the virtues of the root.

For the branch is heir to the character traits of the root.
