تشبّهmodeled himself بيon me غيريsomeone other than me وكلٌّand each لهhe has عُلىًlofty standing
تشبّه بي غيري وكلٌّ له عُلىً
وماand not واحدٌa single one إلاّexcept وأحرزand has attained سؤدداًeminence
وما واحدٌ إلاّ وأحرز سؤدداً
Another has imitated me, and each has lofty standing;
Others emulate me, each with his own pride,
And neither has failed to attain eminence.
Yet none but secured disgrace,
ولكنّand yet ليI have فضلاan advantage عليهover him فإننيfor indeed I
ولكنّ لي فضلا عليه فإنني
أناI الصائحthe caller المحكيّthe one imitated والآخرand the other الصدىthe echo
أنا الصائح المحكيّ والآخر الصدى
Yet I have an advantage over him, for I
But I have an advantage over them, for I am
Am the caller whose voice is echoed, and the other is the echo.
The original voice, the others merely an echo.
