I received an invitation

from you, to the finest home.

From you to a blessed abode

ولم يكن تأخري

عنكم من المحتملِ

Nor was my delay

And my tardiness

in joining you to be expected.

In meeting you was not intentional

فإنني من شيعة

فإنني من شيعة

شعارها حب علي

شعارها حب علي

For I belong to a faction

For I am of the party

whose watchword is love of Ali.

Whose motto is love of Ali

وليس عثمان الذي

وليس عثمان الذي

أقصده في المحفلِ

أقصده في المحفلِ

And it is not Uthman whom

Not that Othman whom

I seek at the gathering,

I seek in the assembly

ولو حكت أنغامه

ولو حكت أنغامه

صوت صفير البلبلِ

صوت صفير البلبلِ

even if his melodies echoed

And if his melodies were told

the sound of the bulbul's whistle.

By the song of the nightingale

لكن على المحبِ قد

لكن على المحبِ قد

سُدت جميع السبلِ

سُدت جميع السبلِ

But for the lover,

But for the lover all

all paths have been barred:

Paths have been blocked

النيل عزت سفْنه

النيل عزت سفْنه

والجسر لم يُعَدّلِ

والجسر لم يُعَدّلِ

the Nile's boats have grown scarce,

The Nile boats have gained pride

and the bridge has not been adjusted.

And the bridge is not yet repaired

فاصفح عن الماضي ودم

فاصفح عن الماضي ودم

ذخيرةَ المستقبلِ

ذخيرةَ المستقبلِ

So pardon the past, and remain

So forgive what is past and let blood

a treasure for the future.

Be provision for the future
