في انتظاري فأطلقوا لي فؤادي
Indeed, I have already fastened my saddle, and my family
I have set out with my family,
awaits me; so release my heart to me.

ليتنيwould that I لمdid not أزُرْI visit حِماكمyour domain فإنيfor indeed I
ليتني لم أزُرْ حِماكم فإني
فيin هواكمlove for you أضعتُI lost كلّall رشاديmy good judgment

Would that I had not visited your domain, for I
If only I had not visited your tent,
have lost all my good sense in my love for you.
For in passion for you I lost all reason.
وبرانيand wore me thin الضناwasting sickness فصارتso became ثيابيmy clothes
وبراني الضنا فصارت ثيابي
فوقover جسميmy body كمضربٍlike a tent ذيwith عمادِa supporting pole

And wasting sickness wore me thin, leaving my clothes
Deprivation has emaciated me, till my clothes
over my body like a tent supported by a pole.
Hang on me like a pillar with beam.
وأتانيand came to me السقامsickness منfrom حيثwhere أبغيI seek
وأتاني السقام من حيث أبغي
صحةًhealth وانهزتُand I was routed قبلbefore الجِلادِthe fight
صحةً وانهزتُ قبل الجِلادِ
And sickness came to me from where I sought
Illness has come to me when I sought
health, and I was routed before the fight.
Health, and I trembled before affliction.
حدَّثواthey reported أنَّthat فيin حماكمyour domain عيوناًsprings
حدَّثوا أنَّ في حماكم عيوناً
تذرُleave الناسَthe people ضامريlean الأجسادِthe bodies
تذرُ الناسَ ضامري الأجسادِ
They said there were springs within your domain
They say that in your tents there are eyes
that leave people lean of body.
That waste away the bodies of men.
صدَقواthey spoke truly إنهاindeed they are عيونٌeyes ولكنand yet
صدَقوا إنها عيونٌ ولكن
كُحّلتْwere lined with kohl منذsince خلْقهاtheir creation بسوادِwith blackness
كُحّلتْ منذ خلْقها بسوادِ
They spoke truly: they are indeed eyes, but
True, they are eyes, but they were lined
have been lined with black kohl since their creation.

جنِّبونيkeep me away from ذكىthe blaze of العيونَthe eyes فقلبيfor my heart
جنِّبوني ذكى العيونَ فقلبي
فيin ارتعاشٍtrembling منfrom فعلهاtheir action وارتعادِand shuddering
في ارتعاشٍ من فعلها وارتعادِ
Keep me from the blaze of those eyes, for my heart
Spare me those bright eyes, for my heart
trembles and shudders at what they do.
Quivers from their deeds and trembling.
فهيfor they كالكهرباءِlike electricity توميthey signal بلحظٍwith a glance
فهي كالكهرباءِ تومي بلحظٍ
فيدقّso it rings الأجراسَthe bells فيin الأكبادِthe livers
فيدقّ الأجراسَ في الأكبادِ
For they are like electricity: they signal with a glance
Like lightning they glance for an instant
that rings bells in the livers.
