فما ألكنٌ جاش الكلام بصدره
فتمتمthen he stammered عنهabout it إذwhen أبىresisted عنfrom تمامهits completion
فتمتم عنه إذ أبى عن تمامه
No tongue-tied man whose breast is astir with speech,
No tongue-tied man in whose breast speech welled up,
Who stammers it out when it refuses to come forth whole,
Who then stammered it out when it resisted completion,
بأكثرany more منيthan I لكنةًhalting speech وفهاهةand inarticulacy
بأكثر مني لكنةً وفهاهة
وأعجزand less able عنto تصريحهhis clear expression بمرامهِof his intent
وأعجز عن تصريحه بمرامهِ
Is more tongue-tied or faltering in speech than I,
Is more halting and inarticulate than I,
Or less able to state plainly what he intends.
Or less able to express his intent clearly.
