إذا نظرت لمن أهواه تلحظني
منfrom العواذلthe reproaching women عينُeye الشزْرhostile sidelong glancing والغضبِand anger
من العواذل عينُ الشزْر والغضبِ
Whenever I look at the one I love, I am watched
When I look upon my beloved's face
By the reproaching women’s eye of sidelong scorn and anger.
The eyes of the fair maid flash with scorn and rage
ماليwhat concern have I وللعذلand with reproach بلrather أرنوI gaze لصورتهat his image
مالي وللعذل بل أرنو لصورته
فيat كلevery آنmoment وقلبيand my heart غيرnot مضطربِtroubled
في كل آن وقلبي غير مضطربِ
What have I to do with reproach? Rather, I gaze at his image
I care not for her disdain, rather I long for her image
At every moment, my heart untroubled.
At every moment, while my heart knows no unrest
