قالوا استعدوا فإسماعيل يمّمكم

قالوا استعدوا فإسماعيل يمّمكم

للامتحان وخافوا من تعقبُّه

They said be prepared, for Ismail will test you

for the examination, and fear his scrutiny.”

For the exam, and fear his pursuit

وجاء وهو على دعوى تفرده

And he came, claiming to be unrivaled,

And he came with his claim of uniqueness

but did not test us with anything that baffles minds.
