عزيزٌ على نفس الغيور أتّضاعُها

عزيزٌ على نفس الغيور أتّضاعُها

وعارٌ عليها أن تميل لذلة

وعارٌ عليها أن تميل لذلة

Abasement is grievous to a soul jealous of its honor.

Precious to the jealous soul is its pride

And it is shameful for it to incline toward humiliation.

And shameful for it to incline to disgrace

زمام المراقي في التساميِ إلى العلى

وخوضِ المنايا لاقتناء المعزّة

وخوضِ المنايا لاقتناء المعزّة

The reins of ascent lie in aspiring to the heights,

Reins of aspirations are toward the heights

And plunging into death's perils to gain honor.

And diving in tribulations to gain glory
