If you dislike our way of life,
If you are weary of our life together
Come, then settle among the sons of Badr.
Bring your belongings to Bani Badr's abode
جاوَرتُهُمI lived among them زَمَنَduring the time of الفَسادِturmoil فَنِعمَand how excellent
الحَيُّthe clan فيin العَوصاءِhardship وَاليُسرِand ease
I lived among them in troubled times—and how fine
I dwelled with them in days of wickedness, yet it was good
A clan they are in hardship and ease!
To live in hardship and in ease
فَسُقيتُso I was given drink بِالماءِwith water النُمَيرِpure and wholesome وَلَمand not
أَترُكI am left أَواطِسَI tread through حَمأَةِthe black mud of الجَفرِthe broad well
So I was given pure water to drink, and was not
I was given water from Al-Numayr to drink and did not
Left to tread through the black mud of the broad well.
Leave the basin of bitter Al-Jafr

And I was invited among the men of the assembly, and was not
And I was called to the virtuous ones and was not
Looked upon with hostile, sidelong eyes.
Looked upon with greenish eyes

Those who strike blows beside their reins,
By those who strike with their spears
Who thrust with spears while their horses gallop,
And their horses run
وَالخالِطينَand those who mingle نَحيتَهُمtheir outsiders بِنُضارِهِمwith their true-born kin

And mingle their outsiders with their true-born kin,
And those who mingle, I approached their vigor
And the wealthy among them with the poor.
And the wealthy among them, the poor
