By your life, the sons of Ziyād have not neglected
By your life! The sons of Ziyad have not wasted
their father's honor, as those who neglect it do.
The glory of their father among those who waste.

صَوارِمَkeen-edged blades كُلَّهاall of them ذَكَرٌhard-steeled صَنيعُfinely wrought
صَوارِمَ كُلَّها ذَكَرٌ صَنيعُ
Sons of a jinn-woman who bore swords,
The Jinniyah bore swords as sons,
keen blades, each hard-steeled and finely wrought.
All stalwart blades, each a feat wrought.
وَجارَتُهُمand their woman-neighbor حَصانٌchaste ماnot تُزَنّىshe is accused of adultery

وَطاعِمَةُ الشِتاءِ فَما تَجوعُ
And their woman-neighbor is chaste, never accused of adultery,
And their neighbor is a steed that is never weak,
and fed in winter, so she never goes hungry.
That feeds in winter yet is never hungry.

A stalwart man has bought my affection and esteem—
I have pledged allegiance and bestowed my honor
Rabīʿ—for even the last of Ghālib's kin, forever.
Upon the last victor forever flourishing.
