وقائلةٍ أَهْلَكْتَ في الجُودِ مالَنا

وقائلةٍ أَهْلَكْتَ في الجُودِ مالَنا

ونَفْسَكَ حتَّى ضَرَّ نَفْسَكَ جُودُها

ونَفْسَكَ حتَّى ضَرَّ نَفْسَكَ جُودُها

And a woman said, “You have ruined our wealth through generosity,

And a woman says, "You have squandered our wealth through generosity,

and yourself, until your own generosity has harmed you.”

And your own self, to the point where her generosity has harmed her.

فقُلْتُ دَعِيني إنَّما تِلْكَ عادةٌ

فقُلْتُ دَعِيني إنَّما تِلْكَ عادةٌ

لِكُلِّ كَرِيمٍ عادةٌ يَسْتَعِيدُها

لِكُلِّ كَرِيمٍ عادةٌ يَسْتَعِيدُها

So I said, “Leave me be; that is merely a habit;

So I said, "Leave me be, for that is the habit,

every generous person has a habit they return to.”

Of every generous soul, a habit he seeks to maintain."
