Insulting my cousin is not in my nature.

Nor do I disappoint anyone who places his hopes in me.

I shall give to him despite difficulties, until

I see, Māwī, that he has no complaint against me.

And an envier's word, though I had done no wrong,

I heard, and said, "Pass on, and spare me."

    وَلَم يَعرَق لَها يَوماً جَبيني

    And they reproached me for it, yet it did not disgrace me;

Nor did my brow ever sweat because of it.

And a two-faced man meets me smiling,

Yet when he is absent, he does not follow my example.

I looked through his eye, then held back from him,

To preserve my honor and my faith.

So blame me if I do not offer a guest hospitality,

And honor whoever honors me, and humble whoever humbles me.
