نِعِمّاhow excellent مَحَلُّlodging الضَيفِthe guest لَوif only تَعلَمينَهُyou (feminine) knew it
نِعِمّا مَحَلُّ الضَيفِ لَو تَعلَمينَهُ
بِلَيلٍby night إِذاwhen ماemphatic particle اِستَشرَفَتهُcaught sight of him النَوابِحُthe barking dogs
بِلَيلٍ إِذا ما اِستَشرَفَتهُ النَوابِحُ
How excellent the guest’s lodging, if only you knew it,
The abode of a guest is blessed, if only you knew it
By night, when the barking dogs catch sight of him.
On a night when the Pleiades rise over it,
تَقَصّىsearched thoroughly إِلَيَّto me الحَيُّthe tribal camp إِمّاeither دَلالَةًguidance
تَقَصّى إِلَيَّ الحَيُّ إِمّا دَلالَةً
عَلَيَّto me وَإِمّاor else قادَهُled him لِيَto me ناصِحُa well-wisher
عَلَيَّ وَإِمّا قادَهُ لِيَ ناصِحُ
He searched through the camp to reach me, either by directions
The living would hasten to me, either to guide
To me, or a well-wisher led him to me.
Me to it, or a well-wisher leads him there.
