إِذا ما اِبنُ عَبّاسٍ بَدا لَكَ وَجهُهُ

إِذا ما اِبنُ عَبّاسٍ بَدا لَكَ وَجهُهُ

رَأَيتَ لَهُ في كُلِّ أَحوالِهِ فَضلا

رَأَيتَ لَهُ في كُلِّ أَحوالِهِ فَضلا

Whenever the face of Ibn Abbas appears before you,

When Ibn Abbas's face appears to you

You see excellence in him in all his circumstances.

You see in all his states excellence

إِذا قالَ لَم يَترُك مَقالاً لِقائِلٍ

إِذا قالَ لَم يَترُك مَقالاً لِقائِلٍ

بِمُلتَقَطاتٍ لا تَرى بَينَها فَصلا

بِمُلتَقَطاتٍ لا تَرى بَينَها فَصلا

When he speaks, he leaves nothing for another speaker to say,

When he speaks he leaves no saying for any speaker

With choice phrases between which you see no break.

With disjointed things between which there is no connection

كَفى وَشَفى ما في النُفوسِ فَلَم يَدَع

كَفى وَشَفى ما في النُفوسِ فَلَم يَدَع

لِذي إِربَةٍ في القَولِ جَدّاً وَلا هَزلا

لِذي إِربَةٍ في القَولِ جَدّاً وَلا هَزلا

He satisfied and healed what lay in people's souls, leaving nothing

It sufficed and healed what was in the souls so he left

For anyone wishing to speak, in earnest or in jest.

No jesting or serious talk for one with doubt

سَمَوتَ إِلى العَليا بِغَيرِ مَشَقَّةٍ

سَمَوتَ إِلى العَليا بِغَيرِ مَشَقَّةٍ

فَنِلتَ ذُراها لا دَنِيّاً وَلا وَغلا

فَنِلتَ ذُراها لا دَنِيّاً وَلا وَغلا

You rose to the heights without hardship,

You rose to the heights without hardship

And attained their summits, neither lowly nor an interloper.

And attained its high parts not lowly and not strenuously

خُلِقتَ خَليقاً لِلمَوَدَّةِ وَالنَدى

خُلِقتَ خَليقاً لِلمَوَدَّةِ وَالنَدى

فَليجاً وَلَم تُخلَق كَهاماً وَلا جَهلا

فَليجاً وَلَم تُخلَق كَهاماً وَلا جَهلا

You were created fit for affection and generosity,

You were created with a nature for love and friendship

Broad-chested, not created dull or ignorant.

Affable and you were not created ignorant or rude
