The vile woman grew insolent; her habit was
The wine cup was passed to her, as was her habit,
baseness whenever she grew insolent, coupled with unbelief.
When drunk, she would curse her God and husband with the unbelievers,
لَعَنَmay curse الإِلَهُGod وَزَوجَهاand her husband مَعَهاwith her
هِندَHind الهُنودِthe Hinds طَويلَةَlong البَظرِthe clitoris
May God curse her, and her husband with her—
She brought out a dancing girl to Ohud,
Hind of all Hinds, with her long clitoris.
Embracing her lustfully in front of the noble men,
أَخرَجتِyou drove out مُرقِصَةًmaking the mount prance إِلىtoward أُحُدٍUhud
فيamong القَومِthe host مُعنِقَةًriding briskly عَلىon بَكرِa young male camel
You drove your mount out toward Uhud, making it prance,
A chaste, honorable man who could not be scolded or deterred,
among the host, riding briskly on a young camel:
Your walking stick you lean on to act piously,
بَكرٍa young male camel ثَفالٍsluggish لاno حَراكَmovement بِهِin it
لاnot عَنin response to مُعاتَبَةٍa reprimand وَلاnor زَجرِa driving shout
a sluggish young camel that would not stir,
Hit the shameless one, naked of virtue,
neither at a reprimand nor at a driving shout.
Her buttocks and vulva ruptured,
وَعَصاكَand your stick إِستُكِyour anus تَتَّقينَyou ward off بِهاwith it
دَقَّthe pounding العُجايَةَthe pastern tendon عارِيَbare الفِهرِthe pounding-stone
And your stick is your arse; with it you ward off
From being penetrated forcefully again and again,
the pounding of the pastern tendon, with the pounding-stone bare.
Her companion tended to her wounds,
قَرِحَتgrew sore عَجيزَتُهاher buttocks وَمَشرَجُهاand her anus

Her buttocks and anus grew sore
Washing them with water and myrtle,
from her driving it hard, by sheer force.
You came visiting eagerly,
ظَلَّتkept تُداويهاtreating her زَميلَتُهاher companion
بِالماءِwith water تَنضَحُهُshe sprinkles it وَبِالسِدرِand with lote leaves
Her companion kept treating her,
On the day of Badr, insulting your father and son,
with water, sprinkling it, and with lote leaves.
And your uncle who was robbed of his armor,
أَقبَلتِyou came forward زائِرَةًroaring مُبادِرَةًhastening
بِأَبيكِfor your father وَاِبنِكِand your son يَومَthe day ذيof بَدرِBadr
You came roaring, rushing forward,
And your two brothers lying dead in the trench,
for your father and your son, on the day of Badr,
And you forgot your own disgraceful act,
وَبِعَمِّكَand for your uncle المَسلوبِstripped of بِزَّتَهُhis clothing
وَأَخيكَand your brother مُنعَفِرَينِboth dust-covered فيin الجَفرِthe pit
and for your uncle, stripped of his clothing,
Oh Hind! Woe to the vileness of fate,
and your brother, both lying dust-covered in the pit.
You returned humiliated, without a tent peg,
وَنَسيتَand you forgot فاحِشَةًa shameful deed أَتَيتِyou committed بِهاit (literally, with it)
ياO هِندُHind وَيحَكِalas for you سُبَّةَa disgrace الدَهرِof all time
And you forgot a shameful deed you committed,
From what you had sought, not even a tent rope,
O Hind, alas for you—a disgrace for all time!
The mother of bastards claimed she gave birth,
فَرَجَعتِso you returned صاغِرَةًhumiliated بِلاwithout تِرَةٍvengeance
مِمّاof what طَلَبتِyou sought بِهاthrough it وَلاand no وَترِblood-revenge
So you returned humiliated, without the vengeance
To a small child, who was born of fornication.
you sought through it, and with no blood-debt avenged.
زَعَمَclaimed الوَلائِدُthe slave-girls أَنَّهاthat she وَلَدَتgave birth

The slave-girls claimed that she had borne
a little child who was born of fornication.
