    O Har, were you in a doze from the sleep of the first among you,

    Or were you—alas for you!—deluded about Gabriel?

    Or were you, O son of Ziyad, when you killed him

    By surprise, in an unknown expanse of land?

    وَفيكُمُ مُحكَمُ الآياتِ وَالقيلِ

    And you said, “We shall not be seen,” while God sees you;

    And among you is he whose verses and speech are firmly established—

    Muhammad; and God, the Almighty, informs him

    Of what the secret depths of utterances conceal.
