    O Ḥār, if you are a man of ample means,

    then ransom the women who serve the clan of Janāb:

    وَالحَقُّ يَفهَمُهُ ذَوُو الأَلبابِ

    your mother's sisters—you already know her station;

    and the truth is understood by those with insight.

    Indeed, al-Farāfiṣa ibn al-Aḥwaṣ has with him

    a branch of your mother's kin, from the daughters of ʿUqāb.

    I have concluded that you yourself are the basest of all who ever walked,

    with a whore's lewdness and a crow's conceit.

    And likewise your forebears left you this legacy: they

    departed, and you were left with disgrace and torment.

    هَيهاتَ مِنكَ مَكارِمُ الأَنسابِ

    And your baseness is a well-known inheritance;

    far from you are the noble qualities of lineage.

    So you inherited from your father treachery and obscenity,

    and baseness, when ancestral merits are compared.

    And your baseness was exposed: your mother was not

    for anyone but the vilest fornicator among the Bedouins,

    with the lewdness of a whore whose sense is scant,

    notorious for lewdness and given to abuse.

    And you branded your arse, then said, 'I am the man!'

    And you dyed a thief's two palms with dye.

    And you took a seat of temptation for the fornicators,

    and you rightly reviled a prostitute's two eyes.

    كَذَبَتكَ نَفسُكَ ما لَها مِن نابِ

    Your soul held out a hope to you, O son of Ṣaqʿab;

    your soul lied to you—it has no fang.
