لِلَّهِto God دَرُّكَyour excellence فيin عِزٍّhonor وَفيand in حَسَبِnoble lineage
O Ḥār, but for what you were accused of, you would indeed have been
O splitter, if not for what was cast upon you,
Admirable, by God, in honor and noble lineage.
Your worth to God would be in glory and lineage.
جَلَّلتَyou clothed قَومَكَyour people مَخزاةًshame وَمَنقَصَةًand dishonor
ماsuch as لَمhas not يُجَلَّلَهُbeen clothed in it حَيٌّa tribe مِنَamong العَرَبِthe Arabs
You have clothed your people in shame and dishonor,
You adorned your people with disgrace and deficiency,
Such as no tribe among the Arabs has ever been clothed in.
That no living Arab had adorned before.

O you who robbed the House with its corners of its adornment,
O robber of the house with pillars as its adornment,
Return the gazelle, for it will not remain hidden with a plunderer.
Return the gazelle, for the robber will not remain hidden.

أَينَwhere الغَزالُthe gazelle عَلَيهِupon it الدُرُّthe pearls مِنof ذَهَبِgold
Ask the sons of al-Ḥārith, who brings disgrace upon his people:
Ask the tribe of Al-Harith Al-Muzri, altogether,
Where is the gazelle of gold, with pearls upon it?
Where is the gazelle with jewels of gold upon it?
بِئسَwretched are البَنونَthe sons وَبِئسَand wretched is الشَيخُthe elder شَيخُهُمُtheir elder

Wretched are the sons, and wretched is the elder—their elder!
Wretched are the sons, and wretched is their elder,
Ruin upon that elder and his offspring!
Cursed is that elder and his progeny.
