أَباO Abu لَهَبٍLahab أَبلِغproclaim بِأَنَّof the fact that مُحَمَّداًMuhammad
سَيَعلوhe will rise بِماthrough what أَدّىhe conveyed وَإِنand even though كُنتَyou are راغِماunwilling
O Abu Lahab, proclaim that Muhammad
will rise through what he has conveyed, even against your will.
وَإِنand even though كُنتَyou were قَدalready كَذَّبتَهُyou called him a liar وَخَذَلتَهُand you forsook him
وَحيداًalone وَطاوَعتَand you obeyed الهَجينَthe half-breed الضُراغِماgluttonous
And though you have called him a liar and forsaken him
alone, and obeyed the gluttonous half-breed.
وَلَوand if كُنتَyou were حُرّاًnoble-born فيin أُرومَةِthe stock of هاشِمٍHashim
وَفيand in سِرِّهاits noblest core مِنهُمamong them مَنَعتَyou would have prevented المَظالِماinjustices
And had you been noble-born of Hashim's stock,
and among their noblest, you would have prevented injustice.
وَلَكِنَّand yet لِحياناًLihyan أَبوكَyour father وَرِثتَهُyou inherited him
وَمَأوىand the refuge of الخَناfoulness مِنهُمamong them فَدَعso leave عَنكَaway from you هاشِماHashim
But Lihyan is your father, whose ways you inherited,
and their refuge of foulness; so leave Hashim alone.
سَمَتrose high هاشِمٌHashim لِلمَكرُماتِto noble deeds وَلِلعُلىand to the heights
وَغودِرتَand you were left behind فيin كَأبٍgloom مِنَfrom اللُؤمِbaseness جاثِماcrouching
Hashim rose to noble deeds and lofty heights,
and you were left crouching in the gloom of baseness.
