قَومي الَّذينَ هُمُ آوَوا نَبِيَّهُمُ

قَومي الَّذينَ هُمُ آوَوا نَبِيَّهُمُ

وَصَدَّقوهُ وَأَهلُ الأَرضِ كُفّارُ

وَصَدَّقوهُ وَأَهلُ الأَرضِ كُفّارُ

My people are those who sheltered their prophet

O my people who sheltered their prophet,

And believed him, while the people of the earth were unbelievers,

And believed him, while the people of earth disbelieved,

إِلّا خَصائِصَ أَقوامٍ هُمُ سَلَفٌ

إِلّا خَصائِصَ أَقوامٍ هُمُ سَلَفٌ

لِلصالِحينَ مَعَ الأَنصارِ أَنصارُ

لِلصالِحينَ مَعَ الأَنصارِ أَنصارُ

Except for chosen few among peoples, forerunners

Except the elite of past nations,

Of the righteous, helpers alongside the Ansar.

Who were righteous supporters alongside the Ansar as supporters,

مُستَبشِرينَ بِقَسمِ اللَهِ قَولُهُمُ

مُستَبشِرينَ بِقَسمِ اللَهِ قَولُهُمُ

لَمّا أَتاهُم كَريمُ الأَصلِ مُختارُ

لَمّا أَتاهُم كَريمُ الأَصلِ مُختارُ

Rejoicing in God's allotment, their words were,

Welcoming joyfully the decree of Allah, their words:

When the chosen one of noble lineage came to them:

“Welcome, welcome in safety and abundance,

أَهلاً وَسَهلاً فَفي أَمنٍ وَفي سِعَةٍ

أَهلاً وَسَهلاً فَفي أَمنٍ وَفي سِعَةٍ

نِعمَ النَبيُّ وَنِعمَ القَسمُ وَالجارُ

نِعمَ النَبيُّ وَنِعمَ القَسمُ وَالجارُ

"Welcome! Here are safety and abundance;

Blessed is the prophet, blessed is the decree and the neighbor.”

What an excellent prophet, and what an excellent portion and neighbor!"

They settled him in a house where he fears not,

فَأَنزَلوهُ بِدارٍ لا يَخافُ بِها

فَأَنزَلوهُ بِدارٍ لا يَخافُ بِها

مَن كانَ جارَهُمُ داراً هِيَ الدارُ

مَن كانَ جارَهُمُ داراً هِيَ الدارُ

So they lodged him in a dwelling where there is no fear

For their neighbor in it is the abode, it is the abode.

For anyone under their protection—a dwelling that is truly a home.

They shared with him therein wealth when they arrived,

وَقاسَموهُ بِها الأَموالَ إِذ قَدِموا

وَقاسَموهُ بِها الأَموالَ إِذ قَدِموا

مُجاهِدينَ وَقَسمُ الجاحِدُ النارُ

مُجاهِدينَ وَقَسمُ الجاحِدُ النارُ

And there they shared their wealth with him when they arrived,

Warring and the share for the disbelieving is the Fire.

Striving in God's cause; the denier's portion is the Fire.

They traveled secretly and marched to Badr at their appointed time,

سِرنا وَساروا إِلى بَدرٍ لِحَينِهِمُ

سِرنا وَساروا إِلى بَدرٍ لِحَينِهِمُ

لَو يَعلَمونَ يَقينَ العِلمَ ما ساروا

لَو يَعلَمونَ يَقينَ العِلمَ ما ساروا

We marched, and they marched to Badr, to their doom;

If only they knew with sure knowledge they would not have marched.

Had they known with certainty, they would not have marched.

He misguided them with delusions then surrendered them,

دَلّاهُمُ بِغُرورٍ ثُمَّ أَسلَمَهُم

دَلّاهُمُ بِغُرورٍ ثُمَّ أَسلَمَهُم

إِنَّ الخَبيثَ لِمَن والاهُ غَرّارُ

إِنَّ الخَبيثَ لِمَن والاهُ غَرّارُ

He lured them with deceit, then abandoned them;

Indeed the wicked one is a deceiver to whoever befriended him.

Indeed, the wicked one deceives whoever takes him as an ally.

And he said, “I am a protector to you,” thereby leading them

وَقالَ إِنّي لَكُم جارٌ فَأَورَدَهُم

وَقالَ إِنّي لَكُم جارٌ فَأَورَدَهُم

شَرَّ المَوارِدِ فيهِ الخِزيُ وَالعارُ

شَرَّ المَوارِدِ فيهِ الخِزيُ وَالعارُ

And he said, "I am your protector," then led them to

To the worst of watering holes, wherein lies disgrace and shame.

The worst of watering places, where disgrace and shame lie.

Then we met and they fled from their beddings,

ثُمَّ اِلتَقَينا فَوَلَّوا عَن سَراتِهِمُ

ثُمَّ اِلتَقَينا فَوَلَّوا عَن سَراتِهِمُ

مِن مُنجِدينَ وَمِنهُم فِرقَةٌ غاروا

مِن مُنجِدينَ وَمِنهُم فِرقَةٌ غاروا

Then we met, and they fled, leaving their leaders behind,

As supporters and among them was a group that hid away.

Some heading for Najd, and a band of them descending to the lowlands.
