May Kaʿb never cease pouring forth his tears

for the dead, himself mutilated and unable to hear.

For I have seen in the valley of Badr, among them,

slain men for whom eyes stream and weep.

So weep, for you have made a suckling slave weep,

like a little dog drawn toward a little bitch.

And indeed the Most Merciful has brought relief to a chief among us,

and humiliated a people who fought him and were struck down.

And from among them survived and escaped in haste

a small routed remnant, fleeing and being scattered.

And among them survived and escaped one whose heart

is panic-stricken, ever splitting apart from fear.
