Indeed, the time has come to recite a famous poem—
The time has come for an infamous poem
A scathing one I hold in reserve for a tribe of miserly milk-suckers.
Whose virulent verses I compose for an upstart folk
يَغليseethes بِهاwith it صَدريmy breast وَأُحسِنُand I perfect حَوكَهاits weaving
وَإِخالُهاand I think it سَتُقالُwill be recited إِنif لَمnot تُقطَعِit is cut short
My breast seethes with it, and I perfect its weaving.
My chest boils with it, excellently I construct it
And I think it will be recited, unless it is cut short.
And its meanings will be conveyed if not cut off
ذَهَبَتwent away قُرَيشٌQuraysh بِالعَلاءِwith glory وَأَنتُمُand you
تَمشونَyou walk مَشيَthe gait of المومِساتِthe prostitutes الخُرَّعِlimp-limbed
Quraysh have carried off glory, while you
Quraysh went with glory while you
walk with the gait of limp-limbed prostitutes.
Walk with the gait of humbled whores
فَدَعواso abandon التَخاجُؤَmincing وَاِمنَعواand guard أَستاهَكُمyour backsides
وَاِمشواand walk بِمَدرَجَةِalong the track of الطَريقِthe road المَهيَعِbroad and open
So abandon mincing and guard your backsides,
Leave your affectations and withhold your wantonness
And walk along the track of the broad, open road.
And walk upright on the smooth road
أَنتُمyou بَقِيَّةُthe remnant of قَومِthe people of لوطٍLot فَاِعلَمواso know

You are the remnant of Lot's people, so know it;
You are the remnant of Lot’s people, know that
And your effeminate men are pointed at with a finger.
And your effeminacy is pointed out with a finger

And when the lineages of Quraysh are examined,
And when Quraysh’s lineages are recounted
Then boast of the house of Shijʿ in the assembly:
Then boast, at the council, of the family of Shijah

Bunglers, unarmed when battle grows fierce;
Tattered garments when war grew harsh
Potbellied when their neighbor has not eaten his fill.
Bellies that are never filled when their neighbors go hungry
