لَقَدindeed كانَwas قَحطانَQahtan العُلاlofty glory القَرمَthe great chief جَدُّناour ancestor
لَقَد كانَ قَحطانَ العُلا القَرمَ جَدُّنا
لَهُhe has مَنصِبٌa station فيin يافِعِthe summit المُلكِkingship يُشهَرُis renowned
لَهُ مَنصِبٌ في يافِعِ المُلكِ يُشهَرُ
Indeed, Qahtan of lofty glory, the great chief, was our ancestor.
Our ancestor Qahtan was truly a noble chief
He has a renowned station at the summit of kingship.
He held high office in Jafnah of the kingdom famed
يَنالُhe reaches نُجومَthe stars السَعدِgood fortune إِنif مَدَّhe extends كَفَّهُhis hand
يَنالُ نُجومَ السَعدِ إِن مَدَّ كَفَّهُ
تُفَلُّare blunted أَكُفٌّhands عِندَat ذاكَthat وَتَقصُرُand fall short
تُفَلُّ أَكُفٌّ عِندَ ذاكَ وَتَقصُرُ
He reaches the stars of good fortune if he extends his hand.
He grasped the stars of fortune if he stretched his palm
At that point, hands are blunted and fall short.
The fists of others drooped and were ashamed
وَرِثناwe inherited سَناءًglory مِنهُfrom him بَرزاًeminent وَمَحتِداًand a lineage
وَرِثنا سَناءً مِنهُ بَرزاً وَمَحتِداً
مُنيفَlofty الذَرىthe summits فَخمَnoble الأَرومَةِancestral root يُذكَرُis remembered
مُنيفَ الذَرى فَخمَ الأَرومَةِ يُذكَرُ
We inherited from him eminent glory and a lineage,
From him we inherited glory and courage bold
Lofty in its summits, noble in its roots, remembered.
He of lofty soul whom Rumah's summits name
