إِذاif تَذَكَّرتَyou recall شَجواًgrief مِنfrom أَخيa brother of ثِقَةٍtrustworthiness
إِذا تَذَكَّرتَ شَجواً مِن أَخي ثِقَةٍ
فَاِذكُرthen remember أَخاكَyour brother أَباAbu (father of) بَكرٍBakr بِماfor what فَعَلاhe did
فَاِذكُر أَخاكَ أَبا بَكرٍ بِما فَعَلا
If you recall grief for a trustworthy brother,
When you recall the lament of a brother in trust
Then remember your brother Abu Bakr for what he did:
Remember your brother Abu Bakr and what he did
خَيرَthe best of البَرِيَّةِcreation أَتقاهاits most God-fearing وَأَعدَلَهاand its most just
خَيرَ البَرِيَّةِ أَتقاها وَأَعدَلَها
إِلّاexcept النَبِيَّthe Prophet وَأَوفاهاand its most faithful بِماin what حَمَلاhe bore
إِلّا النَبِيَّ وَأَوفاها بِما حَمَلا
The best of creation, its most God-fearing and most just,
The best of mankind, most pious and just
Except for the Prophet, and most faithful in what he undertook;
Except the Prophet, fulfilling what he shouldered
وَالثانِيَand the second الصادِقَthe truthful one المَحمودَpraised مَشهَدُهُhis presence
وَالثانِيَ الصادِقَ المَحمودَ مَشهَدُهُ
وَأَوَّلَand the first الناسِthe people مِنهُمamong them صَدَّقَhe believed الرُسُلاthe messengers
وَأَوَّلَ الناسِ مِنهُم صَدَّقَ الرُسُلا
And the second, the truthful one, whose presence was praised,
And the second, the truthful whose place is praised
And the first among the people to believe the messengers;
First of the people to believe the messengers
وَثانِيَand the second of اِثنَينِtwo فيin الغارِthe cave المُنيفِthe lofty وَقَدand already
وَثانِيَ اِثنَينِ في الغارِ المُنيفِ وَقَد
طافَhe circled العَدُوُّthe enemy بِهِaround it إِذwhen صَعَّدَhe climbed الجَبَلاthe mountain
طافَ العَدُوُّ بِهِ إِذ صَعَّدَ الجَبَلا
And the second of two in the lofty cave, while
Second of two in the secluded cave, when
The enemy circled it as he climbed the mountain.
The enemy roamed as they climbed the mountain
عاشَhe lived حَميداًpraiseworthy لِأَمرِto the command of اللَهِGod مُتَّبِعاًfollowing
عاشَ حَميداً لِأَمرِ اللَهِ مُتَّبِعاً
بِهَديِby the guidance of صاحِبِهِhis companion الماضيthe departed وَماand not اِنتَقَلاhe changed course
بِهَديِ صاحِبِهِ الماضي وَما اِنتَقَلا
He lived a praiseworthy life, following God's command,
He lived praiseworthy, following God's command
According to his departed companion's guidance, and never strayed.
With the guidance of his predecessor before he passed
وَكانَand he was حِبَّthe beloved of رَسولِthe Messenger of اللَهِGod قَدindeed عَلِمواthey knew
وَكانَ حِبَّ رَسولِ اللَهِ قَد عَلِموا
مِنَamong البَرِيَّةِcreation لَمdid not يَعدِلhe deemed equal بِهِto him رَجُلاa man
مِنَ البَرِيَّةِ لَم يَعدِل بِهِ رَجُلا
And he was God's Messenger's beloved, as they well knew,
And it was known that none among mankind
Among creation; the Messenger deemed no man his equal.
