تَفَكَّرتُ في الدُنيا وَفيها مَواعِظٌ

تَفَكَّرتُ في الدُنيا وَفيها مَواعِظٌ

تَروحُ وَتَسري في اللَيالي وَتَغتَدي

تَروحُ وَتَسري في اللَيالي وَتَغتَدي

I pondered the world: within it are lessons—

I reflected on the world, and in it are lessons

that go forth at evening, journey through the nights, and set out at dawn.

That go forth at evening, journey through the nights, and set out in the morning.

فَمَن يَأمَنِ الدَهرَ الفَتونَ فَإِنَّني

فَمَن يَأمَنِ الدَهرَ الفَتونَ فَإِنَّني

بِرَأيِ الَّذي لا يَأمَنُ الدَهرَ مُقتَدي

بِرَأيِ الَّذي لا يَأمَنُ الدَهرَ مُقتَدي

Whoever may trust in beguiling Time—for my part,

Whoever may trust treacherous time—as for me,

I am guided by a judgment that puts no trust in Time.

I follow the judgment of one who does not trust time.

أَلَم تَرَ أَنَّ اللَهَ أَنزَلَ نَصرَهُ

أَلَم تَرَ أَنَّ اللَهَ أَنزَلَ نَصرَهُ

عَلى عَبدِهِ خَيرِ العِبادِ مُحَمَّدِ

عَلى عَبدِهِ خَيرِ العِبادِ مُحَمَّدِ

Have you not seen that God sent down His victory

Have you not seen that God sent down His aid

upon His servant Muhammad, the best of all His servants?

Upon His servant, the best of servants, Muhammad,

وَأَرسَلَهُ في الناسِ نوراً وَرَحمَةً

وَأَرسَلَهُ في الناسِ نوراً وَرَحمَةً

فَمَن يَرضَ ما يَأتي مِنَ الأَمرِ يَهتَدِ

فَمَن يَرضَ ما يَأتي مِنَ الأَمرِ يَهتَدِ

And sent him among the people as a light and a mercy;

And sent him among the people as a light and a mercy?

whoever accepts what comes by God’s decree is guided.

So whoever is content with what comes to pass will be rightly guided.
